"When you do things from your soul, other people really dig that shit"

Sooo it’s been awhile since I've posted anything on the blog, 489 days to be exact.  I don’t really have anything that exciting to report during those 489 days, just living life. I bought a house with the boyfriend, friend’s got engaged, I made some new friends, lost some old ones, you know - life. Ok I guess buying the house, and having friends engaged is pretty exciting!!?  Anyways, I’m back and I decided this time around, I’d write about something I really love. However asking yourself what you really love can be kind of tough... I love a lot of things, naturally, but what do I truly love enough to write about, and share with the world? MUSIC. Music is my love of all loves; it’s the sole thing that I never ever get sick of.  Whether I’m happy, sad, or mad, music can leave me feeling perfectly content. For as long as I can remember (thanks Dad) music has been a part of my life, it seeps out of my pours like garlic does when you eat too much of it. Music educates, heals, and brings people together, and without it, I think life would be very different. Alright let’s be honest, life without music would just downright suck.
Getting back to the point, I am always on the hunt for new tunes; I get that “I just met the love of my life" butterfly feeling when I hear a new song or artist that I really dig. About a year or two ago, I started creating playlists on Soundcloud (thank you 8Tracks for the help) and this fueled my passion for music even more.
I love sharing new talent, my dream job would be scouting bands from around the world (if you’re reading this and hiring, call me). No, I don’t really sing, or play instruments (although ask anyone who's been in my car, there's been an electric guitar in my back seat for 4 years? Don't ask..) but I like to believe that I have the ear for music. It brings me joy playing a new song, and seeing friends get excited over it. This goes back to saying that music brings people together, I'll never fully be able to explain my love for it.
I read a great quote the other night, that seems fitting for this post, "When you do things from your soul, other people really dig that shit". Couldn't agree more, music is definitely a large part of my soul.

Back when I used to blog regularly, every Tuesday I would post “Tuesday’s Tune” which would introduce new or older bands, that I completely adored and needed to share. Going forward, every Tuesday I am making it my mission to share my faves with you. I enjoy a wide range variety of music... so beware.

I heard today’s artist while driving to my friend’s place this past summer. I am fortunate to have Sirius Satellite radio, and therefore get to hear some great music before it hits the mainstream radio (which they then completely ruin...). “Take me to Church” by Hozier, immediately gave me chills. I’m not religious at all, so it wasn't really his lyrics that enticed me, but his voice. O M F G this guy can sing, his range is incredible!! After hearing what Sirius called their “new-artist alert” hit, I did some digging for myself, and came across today’s tune, “Work Song”. Ok so warning it’s a little deep, if you’re going through a hard time this can either help you heal, or drive you to take a bath with a toaster, but if you’re just a music lover who appreciates a seriously talented voice, this is for you!
I bought his self-titled debut album yesterday, it’s pretty fantastic! This 24 year old Irish man, will be playing at the Corona Theater in Montreal, on Wednesday October 29th 2014! Unfortunately after getting totally hyped about this news, I read it was sold out. If you have the pleasure to attend this no doubt amazing show, please enjoy it for me!

If you enjoyed "Work Song", then I also recommend "From Eden", "Cherry Wine", and "Like Real People Do". If you like those, then just buy the album, you won't regret it!

Cheers

Tuesday's Tune - June 18th, 2013

Just discovered this musical genius a few weeks ago! Robert Delong is an Electronic Musician from Bothell Washington, and I am completely obsessed with his EP "Global Concepts" that he released in 2012. I literally almost jumped for joy when I read that he was performing at Osheaga on Sunday (Aug 4th), the day I'm going.

This is no doubt my summer song, love! I can guarantee he's going to "make us fucking dance"!
Here's "Global Concepts" by Robert Delong.

RIGHT? soo good.
Cheers!

Tuesday's Tune - April 16th, 2013

Rude, condescending, and pompous, are just some of the words that come to mind when thinking of Kanye West. I'm sure after his Taylor Swift stunt, a lot of you felt the same way as I did towards him, pissed off. Still to this day it annoys me, what a prick for taking away that moment from her!! BUT, I gotta say... if there's one word that does describe this jerk, its talented. I actually boy-cotted his music for years, but recently I've been listening to his earlier albums, specifically "Graduation", released in 2007. Really good stuff, doesn't take away that he's still a total douche bag in my books, but I do appreciate his music, I'll give him that.

So today's tune is off his 2007 album "Graduation", featuring the ever so talented Chris Martin from Coldplay. Enjoy!

Tuesday's Tune - November 27th, 2012

Hello! Long time I know... Been busy & adjusting to the darkness/ colder weather, that time of year folks!

Today's tune is off The Lumineers' debut album, which was released on April 3rd 2012. The band is based in Denver Colorado, and is made up of 3 talented members; Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites, and Neyla Pekarek. For any of you who have listened to their album, you know that picking a "favorite" song is close to impossible, as all the songs are fantastic! One that has been sticking to me for a couple of weeks now is today's tune. So without further a do, please check out "Dead Sea", by the Lumineers.

Cheers!

Tuesday's Tune -March 20th, 2012

Radiohead is hands down of my favorite bands of all time. It's the kind of music that you either love, or hate. My love grew for it in high school when my dad used to rock the albums on the way to school. (Yes I totally made him drive me every morning). Since then, I've been totally obsessed! Seeing them live a couple of summers ago was absolutely fantastic, even though it was outside in the pouring rain, it'll still be one of my best memories!

Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxford shire, that was formed in 1985. The band consists of ridiculously talented people; Thom Yorke (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (guitars, keyboards, other instruments), Ed O'Brien (guitars, backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion). With 8 albums now under their belt, it's safe to say this English rock band has come a long way. I'm soooo excited to see them perform their latest album "The King of Limbs", this June at the Bell Center!

Here's one of my favorites off the album! Enjoy!

Tuesday's Tune - March 13th, 2012

Hello! It’s been forever! I’ve been totally slacking on the blog posts, it’s such a busy time of year! I find once spring hits I tend to be less of a hermit, which is definitely a good thing, but not so good for the blog! With a full time job, gym & cupcakes at night, my life is getting super busy! I will attempt to keep the blog as updated as possible, but bear with me in knowing it’s not a lack of disinterest, but rather lack of time in my schedule!

So to get to Tuesday’s tune, today’s track is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a cover done by Lauryn Hill & the Fugees, and it is fantastic! Lauryn is definitely one of my favorite artists (funny, as I write this, my shuffle just started playing “Nothing Even Matters” by Miss Hill) she’s got a voice like none other, and even though her show last January was somewhat disappointing, I still get that feeling whenever I hear her voice, true love.
Hill made a well-known name for herself with being a member of the group “The Fugees” (from 1991-1996), but it was in 1998 that she launched her solo career, with the release of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” (one of my favorite albums of all time). This album earned Hill 5 Grammy awards, including Album of the year and Best New Artist. Following this successful album, came MTV Unplugged No.2, that was released in 2002, which was a live acoustic album (also amazing).

Today’s tune is a cover of “ Change is gonna come” by Lauryn Hill and her former group, The Fugees, Enjoy!

Tuesday's Tune - March 6th, 2012

Well she's done it again! Rihanna's got me hooked on yet another track! Since I've already done a brief bio on her, I'll get straight to the point. Here's today's track; "Where Have You Been".

Tuesday's Tune - February 28th, 2012

Today’s tune is from the talented Erykah Badu! To be honest, I’m not a fan of all of music, but this song definitely has a beat that will get your head bobbin’!

Badu is a singer/songwriter, actress and activist, and has been in the music biz for years. Her style of music includes elements from R&B, Hip Hop & Jazz, but she is best known for her role in the rise of Neo Soul. What I love about her music, is unlike common R&B, she likes to send a deeper message. You can really feel and get a sense of her personal take on life through her lyrics. The majority of Badu’s music is majorly influenced by her beliefs of the “NOI” (the Nation of Islam) and her African roots and heritage. Today’s track is off her album “New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)” (released in 2008) and is called “Soldier”. Enjoy!

Tuesday's Tune - February 21st, 2012

I come from a small town, when I say small, I mean we literally only have 2 bars. Now there's definitely pros and cons that come with living in such a small town, but I can tell you that a major pro is discovering ridiculously talented artists. Chateau du Lac (one of the two bars), hosts live music every Saturday night, and today's tune is from a band that's made quite the name for themselves on their stage.

Tim Smith from Tim's Myth, is a singer/songwriter, and has been well established in the country, rock, and folk scene in Montreal and Ottawa for the past ten years.
Tim’s Myth & the 444’s formed in 2011 with Tim Smith as their lead vocalist and on rhythm acoustic, Rick Clarke on bass and vocals, Nic Power on lead guitar, mandolin, and vocals, and last but not least, Mark Charbonneau on drums, and percussion. It's said that "Tim’s Myth & the 444’s is an experience of the heart via soulful sounds and playful grooves." After hearing them live a handful of times I can fully agree with that statement!

The band is pleased to announce that they will be releasing their new 11 song album called, "The Thread", this Thursday night (February 23rd, 2012) at The Sala Rossa located on 4848 St-Laurent blvd in Montreal, Qc. With a low cover charge of $10, the doors will open at 8:00pm, with an opening act by "The Fort", and Dj Q spinning between sets, this is something that you will not want to miss! Tickets will be sold at the door, so be sure to get there a little early before the lineup starts ;-)

So without further ado, here is Tuesday’s tune! Fresh off their new album "The Thread", here's "Holy Shepherdess" by Tim's Myth!

Soo good right? For more band information, and to purchase previous albums from Tim's Myth, check out Mythouse Productions.

Tuesday's Tune - February 14th, 2012

Happy Valentine's day fellow readers!

Today's tune is to pay tribute to one of the best female singers of all time, the late Whitney Houstan.
I have to say that the news of Whitney's death completely shocked me, and made me feel sick and uneasy. Hearing about any death makes me feel this way, and it makes me realize how precious life is, and how quickly real it can become, when you hear of a loss.
I was pretty annoyed with Facebook and Twitter comments stating that "she deserved this", and that we "shouldn't be making a big deal out of her death". The thing is, Whitney Houstan was a big deal, she helped shape our music as we know it today, and touched millions of people's lives with her lyrics. I found it disrespectful and tactless to say such things about her. Addiction much like we saw with Amy Winehouse, is a disease, and unfortunately it always ends up getting the best of us. In my opinion, when someone passes, we shouldn't bash or criticize the choices he or she made, but rather celebrate their lives for who they were. In Whitney's case, she was a music legend. I cannot tell you how many drunken girls nights have ended up with multiple Whitney sing a longs, it truly makes me sad that we've lost such a great talent, especially at such a young age. Rest in Peace Whitney, I thank you for your music, it will live on forever.

Off the album "My Love is Your Love", (released in 1998), here is tuesday's tune. "My Love is Your Love", my favorite song from the late Whitney Houstan.

Cheers to Whitney

Tuesday's Tune - January 31st, 2012

Today's tune is a cover of one of the legendary Bob Dylan's songs. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with covering songs, as long as you don’t butcher it! Jeff Buckley does nothing of that sort, in fact, sorry Bob but I kind of enjoy Jeff's version better (yep I said it).

American singer-songwriter and guitarist Jeff Buckley, was born November 17th, 1966 and sadly passed away May 29th, 1997 by a freak drowning accident. His memory lives on today through his music, most of you will remember him from his famous cover of "Hallelujah".

Jeff released two successful albums during his music career, "Grace" in 1994 and "Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk" in 1998.

Today's tune is called "I Shall be Released", enjoy!

Cheers!

P.s Where did January go?

Tuesday's Tune - January 24th, 2012

Although this band started up in 1995, I started listening to them about 5-6 years ago, and with their reggae vibe, I instantly started digging them. Slightly Stoopid is an American band based out of Ocean Beach, San Diego, California. It's been said that they describe their music as "a fusion of acoustic rock and blues, with reggae, hip hop, and punk." The band is made up of 6 members, and they've proved their place in the music world by releasing 6 studio albums and 2 live albums over the past 17 years.

Today's tune is off their 7th album "Chronchitis" (released in August 2007), called 2 Am. I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Tuesday's Tune - January 17th, 2011

As mentioned in recent posts, I discovered a new band that I instantly fell in love with! There's something about finding new music, I get this rush of excitement, and feel the need to learn and discover everything this band or artist has to offer! I've come to realize as I get older, that everyone's taste and view on music is different.  I've realized for myself, it's a true passion and I couldn't live without it!

My newfound love is an alternative rock band from Irvine California, called Young The Giant. The band currently consists of 5 members, Sameer Gadhia (lead vocals & percussion), Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar, vocals), Payam Doostzadeh (bass guitar), and François Comtois (drums, percussion, and Vocals). They released their debut album digitally on October 26, 2010, and then physically on January 25th, 2011. They became famous from their debut song "My Body", which is what lead me to discover them! While "My Body" is more rock and upbeat, I found the rest of the album to be more tame and mellow (which I love).

I decided to buy the "Special Edition album", which included Bonus songs. So glad I did, because today's tune is a bonus track!  I've included the studio recorded version, but also their video in "Open Session" (they did a bunch of videos literally out in the open and they're genius.) So much talent!

So without further ado, here is "Typhoon", by Young the Giant.  Enjoy!

Studio Recorded Version

Open Session

Cheers!

PS. JUST Bought tickets to Young The Giant... they're coming to Montreal March 3rd 9pm (thats a saturday night) at the Corona Theater, tickets are MAD cheap! Get eerrrr done!

Tuesday's Tune - January 10th, 2012

Christmas night we were all chilling at my buddies apartment having a few drinks and listening to music (the usual) and I requested to hear "You Da One" by Rihanna. I ended up getting up as the song started to make another drink and ended up getting distracted in the kitchen, missing most of the song. When I got back I made the statement that I wasn't that into it. My friend looked at me and said no no, listen to it again, it's sick and you're going to love it. I said ok ok, but then forgot about it, until she reminded me to get on it and listen to it again this weekend. I YouTubed it yesterday and obviously fell in love. Who was I kidding? I pretty much love all of Rihanna’s songs, why would this one be any different? After replaying it a few times on repeat, I'm totally obsessed, you called it Lindz! Sick song.

Born in Barbados, Rihanna moved to the US when she was 16 to pursue a music career. It wasn't long after that she was signed with Def Jam Recordings. After selling over 20 million albums and more than 60 million singles, she's considered one of the bestselling artists of all time. She now has 6 albums under her belt and I'm sure that's just the beginning! I can't really even count my favorites from her, she has too many! No doubt in my mind that her latest "You Da One", has been added to that list.

Enjoy!

P.S I ended up buying Young The Giant's album, really fantastic! Definitely recommend it! The rest of their stuff on the album is a little slower than their debut hit "My Body", but I totally dig it! Stay tuned for a post on them soon!

Cheers!

Tuesday's Tune - December 27th, 2011

Now I know I've already posted The Black Keys in the past, but I couldn't help myself! Today's tune is off the new album "El Camino", I've had it on repeat since Christmas and one of my instant favorite songs is "Little Black Submarines". Enjoy!

Cheers!

Tuesday's Tune - December 20th, 2011

I debated doing a Christmas tune today but then figured that might be a little lame, so I went with my original plan, a little indie garage rock!
Today's song gets me in a great mood, I discovered it through satellite radio about 6 months ago, and although its not new at all, I think its safe to say that new or old, good music, is good music.

Albert Hammond Jr is a member of the garage rock band called "The Strokes". He mostly plays the rhythm guitar, but sometimes plays lead guitar and the keyboard live. While still having a great relationship with the band, Albert released his debut solo album called "Yours to Keep" in 2006, followed by his second album "¿Cómo Te Llama?" in 2008.
Today's tune is off "Yours to Keep" and was his third single off the album. I really dig this song...hope you will too!

Here is "In Transit" by Albert Hammond Jr!

Tuesday's Chune - December 13th, 2011

As mentioned in last week's post, I am a huge Reggae fan. I grew up listening to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Gregory Isaacs, to name a few, and over the years I have developed a strong taste for all types of Reggae artists! About 5 years ago I discovered Sizzla, Damian & Stephen Marley, Jah Cure, Gyptian, etc. and I totally fell in love. There's just something about it, the riddims just excite me and put me in great mood!

Today's track is one from Stephen Marley, son of the legendary Bob Marley! It's clear in my mind that all the Marleys are blessed with their father's talent, Stephen is a 5 time Grammy award winner as an artist but also as a producer. He pretty much produced all 3 of his brother's Damian Marley's solo albums. Welcome to Jamrock sticks out in my mind, where Stephen performed on the popular track "All Night".
My tune today is off Stephen's debut album called "Mind Control" (released in 2007), the album won a grammy for best Reggae album in 2008.
So here is tuesday's "chune" (as the Jamaican's would say), "Traffic Jam" featuring Damian Marley & Buju Banton.

SO good!
Cheers xo

Tuesday's Tune - December 6th, 2011

According to my buddy, after a few drinks, I sometimes get "lost" in the music. I've always agreed with him that it's something that just takes over me, but I particulary noticed this last friday night after a couple of glasses of wine. I had my ipod on shuffle and a song popped up that I hadn't heard in awhile, it was as if I got sucked out of reality and was placed right in the middle of this song. I enjoyed it so much that I decided it would be today's tune.

I'm positive that all of you know The Police, and if not, well clearly you've been living under a rock for the past 35 years...(semi jk.)

The rock band formed in London in 1977, with Sting as their lead vocals and bass, Andy Summers on the guitar, and Stewart Copeland on the drums. In my eyes, these men are definitely living legends! I saw them perform twice in Montreal and each show was absolutely amazing!
Today's song is off their second album called "Reggata de Blanc" (released in 1979), now I dont know if I mentioned this, but I am a HUGE reggae fan. This band isn't classified as reggae, however I do find this song has a reggae vibe to it. So here's tuesday's tune; "Walking on the Moon" by The Police. Enjoy!

Cheers xo

Tuesday's Tune - November 29th, 2011

It was a buddy from work who introduced me to today's band, and I am madly in love. Angus and Julia Stone are a brother - sister duo from Australia. Their style is folk with a bluesy edge, and with  instruments like the cello, harmonica, guitar, trumpet, drums and mandolin, there is no doubt that these siblings are musical geniuses. With both parents as former folk band members and a sister who plays the saxophone, it is safe to say that this family has WAY too much talent under one roof!
Angus & Julia released their debut album "A Book Like This" in September 2007, and today's tune is off that album.

The song that introduced me to the band is called "Big Jet Plane" (off the album "Down the Way" released in 2010), which some of you might remember from various commercials this past year. I really enjoy "Big Jet Plane", as well as several other songs from the duo, such as; "Mango Tree", "Paper Aeroplane" and "Yellow Brick Road". However, I am completely in love with "Just a Boy". I love the lyrics, Angus' voice, and of course one of my favorite instruments, the harmonica.

So here it is, "Just a Boy" by Angus & Julia Stone! Enjoy!

Tuesday's Tune - November 22nd, 2011

Word! So today's tune is from a band called Awolnation. Who you ask? No worries, I will have to brutally honest and say that although this band made it to two albums, it's definitely a one hit wonder. Now I could totally be wrong, but just sayin'!
My cousin introduced this song to me back in March and I enjoyed it then but had completely forgotten about it. It wasn't until my girlfriend was playing it the other month that I realised it was the same song and came to really enjoy it. The name of the song is called "Sail", and from what I got from the video it's about aliens...(I know my thoughts exactly.. but give it a chance!)

I highly suggest you listen to this as loud as you can. There's something about it.... if you're having one of those raging days that we all know so well, pop this track on, kick back and enjoy!

I've got a busy week of baking and cake pop making so be sure to check it out!

Cheers!
