"She Bakes,...she Scores!"

Want one way to your man's heart? Bake for him! We have a misconception of cupcakes being very "girly", (Ok well, yes they generally are lol) but here is a way to turn a cute cupcake into something your man will love! Sports! In honor of football season & hockey now starting up, use your favorite team as your decorating focal point! Here are some examples of what I've done in the past.

Habs Cupcakes!

This one I did for a customer. It was her boyfriends local team's Jersey.

The key to getting the logo exact, is this wonderful invention called edible paper. I get mine done at the kitchen supply store called Ares.

Buttercream

Photography by Emilie Olson

Here is an easy Buttercream icing recipe that would cater to anybody's sweet-tooth!

You will need the following ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine softened
  • 1 teaspoon of Vanilla
  • 4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar (approximately 1 lb.)
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Now obviously I cannot tell you my secret ingredient, because what kind of baker would I be ;-)

Your First step will be to cream the butter and vegetable shortening with a hand mixer in a large bowl on medium speed. Add Vanilla or flavor you desire.
Step two will consist of adding by (1 cup at time) the confectioners sugar and hand mixing on medium until smooth. Remember to scrape the sides of the bowl to make sure all is mixed together!
Once all sugar is mixed in, step three is to add the 2 tablespoons of milk. Beat on medium speed until Buttercream is light and fully.

To color your Buttercream icing (like the awesome blue from my cupcake above), add color to icing and beat on medium for 1-2 mins or until color is fully mixed. Always start by adding just a drop so you can get the color just right.
Note that you can prep your icing the night before, but be sure to leave a damp piece of paper towel resting on the icing and cover bowl tightly in fridge.

Enjoy icing making!

Oh Audrey! What a classy Gal!
Hi! My name is Katie and this is my first time "blogging" (so bear with me). I come from a small town in Quebec, Canada. I started making cupcakes in 2010 and have grown a true passion for it. I went by the name KatieCakes for about year but decided that cupcakes were my true love and decided to change my business' name to "Les Gateaux Mignons".
I love the idea that you can look at a piece of food and not think, "Wow, that looks tasty", but rather, "Wow, that is really pretty." Edible Art, there's endless possibilities!
Ok so what does Audrey Hepburn have to do with all this? Well she has been I guess you can say my role model for many years now. I love how classy she was, she had such a warm heart, great sense of humor and such a refreshing feminine style! Having said that, you will soon see that most of my cupcake creations come with an influence of her.
Hope you enjoy! xo
